2010!  The first year of the new decade, and it already promises to be exciting for us, and by extension, for our customers, I believe.  Here's why:

As you know, we're hoping to purchase a land-records-management system sometime in the near future.  Our request for proposals drew responses from many top-notch vendors throughout the nation.  I'm happy to report that during the last couple of months we made significant progress by narrowing the field of vendor candidates to two.  Our next step is to visit some of the vendors' customers and get a firsthand look at their systems.  The results of these visits, plus in-depth reference checks, will help us determine our vendor of choice.  Once a choice is made, and the project's funding is approved, we'll move forward.

"Archive Access" is another of our records-maintenance-related projects soon to be under way.  Recently, we republished a request for proposals; several vendors responded.  Interest in this project appears to be very high among vendors, and potential users.  It's understandable.  Through Archive Access, index books will be scanned, and a program will be created to allow customers to conduct a remote search.  A request for copies could be submitted electronically, and returned the same way.  This is a definite timesaver because it'll reduce the number of times a customer will have to travel to our downtown office to search records.

Also in technology, one of our other services is progressing well--e-recording.  We're coming ever closer to a "200 documents" e-recording day.  So far, we have nearly 100 submitters from around the country.  And as we'd hoped, other Nebraska counties are beginning to e-record, such as Adams, Scottsbluff and Sarpy, while still more are considering the possibility--Lancaster, Otoe and Dodge, for example.  I think we can safely say that Nebraska now can be counted among the e-recording states.

By the way, if you're interested in learning more about e-recording, or whether it's a fit for you, contact Lynn Wilkey, simplifile regional sales director, at 800-460-5657, x1137.  Simplifile is our e-recording vendor.  Or if you're involved in commercial real estate, plan on attending the annual CREW Conference at the Qwest Center on April 16.  They've planned a great lineup of topics and panels, and I'll also do a "real-time" e-recording demonstration.  Perhaps I'll see you, there!

In the meantime, as always, feel free to contact us if you have questions, concerns or suggestions about the service(s) we provide to you.  Call us at 402-444-6780, or send your e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Best,
