LOCAL OFFICIAL ATTENDS NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN PORTLAND, OR

¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Diane Battiato, CPO, Douglas County Register of Deeds, recently returned from the National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials and Clerks (NACRC) Annual Conference in Portland, OR.¬†
¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† NACRC members convened for discussion about the latest issues affecting land records and records management, court administration, clerk to board, vital statistics, and elections administration.¬†¬† Members attended sessions¬† such as dealing with substance abuse in the office, land records processes, federal tax liens, microfilm best practices, parliamentary procedure, and also participated in roundtable discussions about various recording practices.
¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† The conference featured many well-regarded speakers, including Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, representatives from the Internal Revenue Service and the Center for Digital Government.¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†
¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† NACRC invited vendors in the industry to the conference to discuss their latest services and products to assist county officials with finding the best options for their offices.
¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†‚ÄúThis meeting gives county officials an opportunity to learn from fellow county officials across the United States and provides a forum to share innovations and discuss policy,‚ÄĚ Battiato said.
¬†¬†¬†¬† Battiato is a member of the Land Records Interest Group, which works to enhance communication efforts between the states, as well as stay on top of current and needed legislation regarding property ownership.¬†During the conference, Battiato was awarded her second certificate as a ‚ÄúCertified Public Official‚ÄĚ.¬†
NACRC is a professional organization founded in 1949 of elected and appointed county administration officials, who network on a national level to share information and ideas.¬† The association provides continuing education, technology updates and a stronger voice on federal legislative issues and is an affiliate of NACo.
