LOCAL OFFICIAL ATTENDS NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN PORTLAND, OR
July 22, 2011
Diane Battiato, CPO, Douglas County Register of Deeds, recently returned from the National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials and Clerks (NACRC) Annual Conference in Portland, OR.
NACRC members convened for discussion about the latest issues affecting land records and records management, court administration, clerk to board, vital statistics, and elections administration. Members attended sessions such as dealing with substance abuse in the office, land records processes, federal tax liens, microfilm best practices, parliamentary procedure, and also participated in roundtable discussions about various recording practices.
The conference featured many well-regarded speakers, including Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, representatives from the Internal Revenue Service and the Center for Digital Government.
NACRC invited vendors in the industry to the conference to discuss their latest services and products to assist county officials with finding the best options for their offices.
“This meeting gives county officials an opportunity to learn from fellow county officials across the United States and provides a forum to share innovations and discuss policy,” Battiato said.
Battiato is a member of the Land Records Interest Group, which works to enhance communication efforts between the states, as well as stay on top of current and needed legislation regarding property ownership. During the conference, Battiato was awarded her second certificate as a “Certified Public Official”.
NACRC is a professional organization founded in 1949 of elected and appointed county administration officials, who network on a national level to share information and ideas. The association provides continuing education, technology updates and a stronger voice on federal legislative issues and is an affiliate of NACo.
