Douglas County Register of Deeds Expands Credit-Card-Payment Program
Effective immediately, the Douglas County Register of Deeds office will accept the following types of credit cards from customers: MasterCard, VISA, American Express and Discover. The office recently started using PayPort, a credit-card processing system offered by Nebraska.gov. Nebraska.gov is providing the system to the Register of Deeds office at no charge.
Register of Deeds Diane Battiato said, “PayPort is a secure system. It provides a cost-effective solution that offers customers the option of using a credit card to pay fees owed to our office.” Battiato added that the credit-card companies will charge customers a small processing fee.
The office collects fees for various services, including filing fees, documentary stamp tax, copies and reports (mortgage/deed of trust, grantor/grantee, notice of default, daily grantee, and city report, for example).
“We are excited to work with Nebraska.gov for processing credit-card payments. This system will help create efficiencies in our office and help us continue to offer superior customer service,” Battiato said.
